| The paper summarizes the decisions of the SYNTHESIS project that systematically investigates various component-based development issues, including the required level of completeness of specifications for the component-based development, the required canonical modeling facilities for uniform specification of heterogeneous pre-existing components and for specifications needed on various phases of information systems development, correct approaches for identification of relevant component capabilities and respective component fragments, for composition of relevant component capabilities to get a refinement of a respective part of a specification of requirements, the required level of formal facilities that should be related to the canonical modeling facilities.
