A new release 1.6.0 of WoPeD ("Workflow Petrinet Designer"), an easy-to-use, freely available, Java-written tool for editing, managing, simulating and analyzing workflow Petri nets using the well-established "van der Aalst" notation. FM09: 16th International Symposium on Formal Methods 2009, late Summer 2009 is being prepared.

Formal Methods Europe (FME, http://www.fmeurope.org/) is a worldwide association bringing together researchers and practitioners in formal methods for the development of computing systems and software. FME invites proposals to host the 16th International Symposium on Formal Methods (FM09) to be held in Europe in late Summer 2009 as a World Conference some ten years after the world congress held in Toulouse in 1999 (FME’99), which attracted some 500 attendees and many related events.

Fran Allen, Named 2006 A.M. Turing Award Winner

ACM has named Frances E. Allen the recipient of the 2006 A.M. Turing Award for "pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of optimizing compiler techniques that laid the foundation for modern optimizing compilers and automatic parallel execution." This award marks the first time that a woman has received this honor. In February 2006, the Object Management Group (OMG) announced that they had been granted the right to develop new specifications based on the ODMG 3.0 specification and the formation of the Object Database Technology Working Group (ODBT WG). The ODBT WG plans to create a set of standards that incorporates advances in object database technology (e.g., replication), data management (e.g., spatial indexing), and data formats (e.g., XML) and to include new features into these standards that support domains where object databases are being adopted (e.g., real-time systems).
