Main objective of the SYNTHESIS project is the investigation of semantic
interoperability problems extending industrial core interoperation solutions
such as OMG-based CORBA or ODMG data model in the direction of the interoperable
systems design.
At least two consideraions influence the architectural implementation
decisions for the SYNTHESIS. The first one is the necessity to provide
homogeneous equivalent specifications of various data models in SYNTHESIS.
For that we use method of the commutative data model mapping. The second
one is the intention to reach implementation independence of the specific
DBMS used for the meta information repository support.
Taking into account these requirements and current industrial trends,
ODMG/ODL (Object Database Management Group/ Object Definition Language)
model was chosen for the intermediate level of the architecture.
For the starting implementation we use VODAK ODBMS possessing advanced
metaclass definition facilities. To provide the independence mentioned
above we encapsulate VODAK using the ODMG interface. For that we construct
equivalent representation of the VODAK model in the ODMG model using commutative
mapping.
ODMG model in its turn is commutatively mapped into the SYNTHESIS model. |
