Abstract:
The industrial solution to interoperation in heterogeneous information resource environment (HIRE) is based on the idea of total encapsulation of the underlying resources. No semantics of resource could be supported on the generalized model level. At the same time convenient, industrially supported way to get access to heterogeneousservices will be provided. From the other side, such hard topics as semantic interoperability and legacy systems require more comprehensive solutions that need careful study and proper theoretical and architectural decisions. To cope with these
requirements in the SYNTHESIS project a number of features is provided for reasoning that certain collection of information resources is applicable to a particular problem and is consistently composable for interoperable work. Basic features of the SYNTHESIS methodology for the interoperable information system design are presented.

An architectural provisions for the integration of CORBA-embedded objects into the SYNTHESIS HIRE are proposed. The resulting complementary architecture makes possible to reach semantic interoperation of CORBA-embedded information resources. The paper shows how to enrich description of such information resources to apply the SYNTHESIS information system design methodology (providing for semantic reuse of pre-existing information resources) to ORB accessible resources.
